Premiere: WOMEN-ROSES-WATER

  • Carnival Studio Theater 1300 Biscayne Boulevard Miami, FL, 33132 United States (map)

Peter London Global Dance Company celebrates its 10th anniversary season with the virtual world premiere of WOMEN-ROSES-WATER, a contemporary and Afro-Caribbean dance fusion filmed at the Arsht Center in Miami.

This production includes commissioned works performed by The Ballet and Dance Orchestra under the baton of its’ artistic director, Ezra Haugabrooks.

PLGDC artistic director and choreographer, Peter London, showcases his Trinidadian and Tobagonian roots in an electrifying and powerful work of a woman's lament for the loss of her child to violence. The work utilizes the dynamic movements of the Yoruba Orisha, Oya (goddess of storms and whirlwinds and keeper of the gates to her son's burial ground) and the Orisha, Oshun (protector of children and goddess of love and beauty). The world premiere includes a solo based on Marilyn Holifield's book Seven Sisters and a Brother and her recounting of her father’s planting roses at her bedroom window. London completes “Men Roses to Women” with a male quartet of exquisite and luminous dancing by PLGDC dancers featuring former principal Leon Cobb. Artist Michael Elliot has been commissioned to create five paintings for digital projection.

Prepare to be transformed while witnessing an all-male dance of deep passion titled “Men Roses for Women,” featuring international dance stars Lloyd Knight (principal with Martha Graham Dance Company); Christopher McKenzie (former dancer with Dallas Black and The Lion King); Leon Cobb (former artist with Martha Graham Dance Company, Limon Dance and MOMIX Dance); Gentry Isaiah George (former dancer with AILEY II and Dance Theatre of Harlem); and Justin Rapaport (artist with Ballet BC in Vancouver, Canada).

WOMEN-ROSES-WATER includes works by Annellyse Munroe (former AILEY II company member); and new solo work created and performed by Sharron Lynn Williams (former dancer with AILEY II, artist in Broadway's The Lion King, and actress in Love Craft Country).

The video will be streamed on VIMEO. Once you purchase your ticket, a link will be emailed to you, closer to the premiere date, to access the performance.
